Iohannes Brunensis lectori s.p.d.:

Id. Mart., Caveat lector: propter quendam errorem explicationes interdum non integrae apparent. Mox emendabitur.

26. Mart., Beta versio lexicorum addita!

Gratias!

As I am in quite a hurry, I will use English – veniam rogo.
I’m very happy to have found your work, it is great to have the Georges on the Kindle instead of lugging my laptop around.
But unfortunately it seems not to be complete: For instance the entry for „accido[1]“ omits the second part of the explanation, it should end with „accadens, Sen. suas. 6, 3.“ but instead ends with „vgl. Fabri Liv. 21, 10, 12. Drak. Liv. 40, 32, 2.“. The same thing happens e.g. with „ago“, here it omits most of the explanation.
This corresponds with the fact that the file size seems much to small, it’s about 24 Mb, but when I converted my CD-ROM-version of the Georges it gave a file size of about 80 Mb.
I sincerely hope you will be able to find the problem!

Salve, gratias, quod hoc ad me scripsisti. Die Saturni vel Solis diligentius rem inspiciam, ut ubi error lateat, inveniam.
      Valeas quam optime.

Puto me iam errorem (stultum sane) invenisse, quem – si potero – mox emendabo. Exspecta(te) igitur aliquot dies, veniamque mihi da(te).
PS: Si velis, Germanice quoque scribere potes :-).

Ecce β-versio lexici emendata. Proh dolor mihi nunc instrumentum Kindle deest neque omnia diligenter probare propter temporis egestatem possum, sed spero omnia bene se habitura.

Thank you so much for this great dictionary. Would that be available as well in .azw? It doesn´t allow me to convert the mobi-file as it seems to be encrypted.
    Thanks. rb

    • Iohannes Brunensis

Hi, the Kindles use only .mobi format for dictionaries as far as I know. The format .azw is only for standard books. What is your device?

  • Richard

Maybe i´m just incapable… I´m using the paperwhite. When I move the file in the kindle´s „document“ folder it doesn´t appear when i turn on the kindle. All my othe files are .azw How do I fix that? Thanks a million!!!

    • Iohannes Brunensis

Hi Richard, I just tried it on may Kindle Paperwhite 3 and it should work.

Just one VERY important thing to remind: This version does not recognize automatically forms of the words (I simply did not have that type of data at that time, neither my skills were enough high). So its usability is limited. However, feel free to try An Elementary Latin Dictionary (Lewis), which works much better in this respect, see http://www.litteraelatinae.eu/?p=381 . Or download some Latin dictionary from the Kindle Store. There were not so many before – and that was also the reason for my work, however, it seems so that others did meanwhile the same job and maybe better :).

      Now, how to use Georges:
      – Copy the file with the dictionary to Documents folder in your Kindle (you did it well)
      – Open any document with Latin wo/Volumes/Kindle/screenshot_2016_04_30T18_30_20+0200.pngrds
      – Select a word -> if it is in a basic form and you are lucky, the word will be recognized, you should see something like that: https://imagebin.ca/v/2fYigpSgrxD0

Now, what to do, if the word is not recognized? Well, the best would be use another Latin dictionary, which recognizes the forms, then open the word in that dictionary (this possibility is hidden under „…“, if you select the word) and then in the full-page view of the dictionary entry select the lemma and change the dictionary to Georges. It is quite complicated, but it works. You can also open the dictionary directly in Kindle (write its name in the search field) and search the words there. It is not perfect, but better than nothing.

I usually use An Elementary Latin Dictionary on Kindle, and if I need something more, then I turn to my Android Smartphone and search there in my library of StarDict dictionaries.

I would like to come back sometimes to Georges and add the recognition of the forms, but it is something for future…

If you had any questions, just write to me.
      I hope it helps.
      Have a nice day.
